See the kite master in action
As you know, the wonderful world of kiting is made up of many characters, united in a love of kites. For almost four decades, Mikio Toki has been a regular fixture at the world’s best kite festivals, flying the traditional Japanese kites he creates, and hosting workshops.
Full of smiles and often dressed in traditional garb, Mikio is credited with preserving the age-old art of making Edo kites, Edo being the old word for Tokyo. His intricate designs, painted on handmade paper with bamboo spars, will fly over Pelican Park this weekend at Kitefest, but in the meantime, get to know the kite maker – and learn something while you’re at it – by watching him demonstrate how to make a Kaku Dako four-sided kite.
