KP gift guide 4 kids

Kites make fantastic gifts for kids – they get them outdoors, teach them hand-eye coordination and are fun for the whole family. Be the cool aunty/uncle/friend/mum/dad/random-xmas-guest who got them the BEST present ever. Here’s a guide to what suits which age group…

Even teenie tiny tots can start their kite addiction early. An absolute best-seller is the Peter Lynn Octopus, allegedly designed by the kite-buggy king for his grandson. With all those fluttery tentacles and vivid colours, it’s an all-round fav and suitable from age three and up. The small rainbow delta is another winner for littlies.

As soon as they can hold on and not let go, kids are ready to fly one-line kites on their own. We recommend classic diamond kites or delta shapes for younger kids, as they are steady in the sky and super easy to fly. Rainbow Diamonds (pictured above) and Rainbow Deltas look awesome in the sky.

Progress to a two-line stunt kite from about age eight – although we have met a five-year-old who could handle a stunt kite, it really depends on the kid. Stunt kites provide heaps more fun as kids can learn tricks and master kite control. The Prism Jazz is fantastic beginner stunt kite, and well constructed to handle a few plunges to the ground!

Small foils, or powerkites, are another excellent gift for older kids. Again, they’re on two lines, giving them heaps of control and a bit of drag. Something like the Ozone IMP II trainer kite would be ideal for a girl or boy over 10 years old who is keen to move into kite sports one day.

We have heaps more kites to suit kids of all ages and interests. There are giant sea creatures, box kites and funky shapes – check out the full range here and give the kid in your life the COOLEST Christmas present eva OMG…

Remember, our kites are built to last and easy to fly. We test them all – yes, even the one-line diamonds!
